Local Women’s Organizations to Host
2nd Annual STOP Human Trafficking Workshop
LODI – Local women’s organizations are working together to host the 2nd Annual STOP Human Trafficking Workshop, free and open to the public. The event will take place on Saturday, March 5 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and will be held at Temple Baptist Church. For free tickets to the event please contact Co-President of Soroptimist International, Bev Lacy at 209-334-5389 or e-mail her at silodi@soroptimist.net. Free tickets will also be available at the door.
The program speaker is Kay Buck, Executive Director of the Coalition to Abolish Slavery and Trafficking (CAST) in Los Angeles. The mission of CAST is to assist persons trafficked for the purpose of forced labor and slavery-like practices and to work toward ending all instances of such human rights violations. The workshop is intended to instill knowledge in the public, promote advocacy for victim’s rights, and draw the community to action. Come and learn what you can do to help stop the violent trading of human lives.
At the event, there will be two vendors selling items handcrafted by women escaping the life of sex trafficking. Also, tickets will be sold for door prizes. All proceeds will directly benefit organizations that work to stop human trafficking. This event is co-sponsored by the Women’s Center of San Joaquin County, Soroptimist International of Lodi Sunrise, Soroptimist International of Lodi, and the Lodi branches of the Salvation Army, Business and Professional Women’s Foundation (BPW) and American Association for University Women (AAUW).
